anyone got a mac mini that they work off of? What model, and specs do you use? I got one, and it seems okay, but sometimes gets a little sluggish, and wondering hat others' opinons are. Toodle-oo

The mac mini has a really slow bus - 167 MHZ - the same as my old 12" 1.33 GHZ powerbook, which I had to sell, because it ran professional design software wayyyy too slow.
That's my experience.

Think of it like this..
when was the mac mini available?
2004?
then you will have the capabilities to develop any job created from the times of neanderthal man till that year, including anything made/designed by: carson, tdr, buro destruct, sagmeister, justin harder, logan, etc
is that enough?

I am freelancing at a studio at the mo and am using one(1.3ghz 1GB Ram). Seems fine, was a little slow yesterday but I did have nearly every design package open under the sun.
Very good value for money IMO

They run everything fine as far as I can tell. Max out the RAM and you'll be ok.
Size isn't everything.

(Dec 21 05, 01:31)true indeed.
i don't have one, but I work from a powerbook and I believe imacs are faster than pb, so if I can do it, I'm sure you can as well..
I will always remember my firsts jobs where done on a PC with windows 95 my monitor was like 10 inch and I had a 28.800 modem, and I did tons of website design for big clients when everyone was already in win 98 and some with cablemodem.
I was fine with that, untill I had my first job at an agency, where I had mac ( the ugly imacs with the colored monitors) wich was faster, bigger and nicer, then I hated working with my computer at home.

Me an IT here had a rather heated debate with paraselene over the merits of the mac mini... she damn near refused to use it!
My only gripe is that you're not really able to fix it/upgrade it should you need too.

it's ok in speed when it comes to cpu stuff, but when the HD has to work, it's slow
I think I'm selling mine
