how do i get em real crisp, and not all jagged like w/o using a bg

if it is an option go with PNG, if not them match the color of whatever background color you will use to the matte of the gif , in other words use the color matte option,

the bg is a photo
and png gives me a background when displayed

oh well, i'll try to match it up as close as i can
just figured it was a way you could make it extra smooth

png gives you a background in internet explorer because it doesn't display correctly in IE. Netscape based technologies (ie firefox) display png correctly. You're dealing with the alpha channel. Also, with photoshop, make sure with .gif files that you have matte turned off - hence giving you the jagged border.

Use this fix to use PNG with transparancy in IE. I use it all the time and never had a problem.
