So I have a PowerBook that's about 2 years old, and I can't remember if it has a DVD burner or not.
Anyways, I going to upgrade and I want to backup all my stuff...about 11 GB worth. I don't normally back up, so I need to back everything up, but my PowerBook keeps rejecting every DVD-R I put in.
Is there another way to backup? I coulda sworn I had a DVD burner, but now I'm not sure.
PLEASE HELP ASAP! THANKS!

go under the Apple (top left)..
- About this Mac, More Info...
- Hardware, Disc Burningthis will tell you if you got DVD-R or not.
you might just be putting in uncompatible DVDRs
- CincodeMayo0
It says...
Apple Supported/Shipped
And it says CD-RW and DVD-ROM...so does that mean I can only watch DVD's?
If so, does anyone have a good, quick way to back things up?
- shilohous0
click on the apple in the upper left
then click about this mac
then click on ATA
that will tell you if you have a dvdrwif not, pick up a lacie external
back it up that way.
keep the lacie and continue to back up. you wont regret it

I'll look into the Lacie drives, but is there any cheaper solutions for the time being?
- shilohous0
what is the stuff on your hd worth to you?
if you have the time, burn a stack of cd's/
will cost you 12 bucks i guess

i second the lacie or other external drive for backing up - the lacie porshe is fassssst tho! :)

It's worth a lot...but I can't spend $100 on a drive right now.
Is there any smaller external HD's? I don't need 80GB...anything around 20GB?
I have 1 folder alone that is about 11GB, so burning that on CD's will take a good amount of time. Aren't there sites for this kinda thing? I have a .mac account (for 12 more days...) maybe that can do it?

Oh, how bout this...
I still have a iMac (about 4 years old) with a DVD burner...any way of transfering the folder from my PB to my iMac like over a network or something?
Or will that take me way too long...

connect an ethernet cable to em and network that piss. would prolly be pretty quick. unless they both have firewire ports. then fiyawya that piss
- CincodeMayo0
I do have an extra ethernet cable...
What do I do exactly?
Just connect the two and then what?

you'll need a fire wire cable connect the ends to PB and imac.
reboot your PB hold down [apple]+T or is it [shift]+T on startup -
voila - your pwerbook is an external drive to your imac.
that is if your imac has a firewire port...
- shilohous0
make sure both have apple talk turned on and you should see the drives.. you will prolly have to enter the passwords for whatever machine you are connecting to, then drag and drop

get rid of that osx crap and install linux

;)
Cincode.. sorry i posted first and bailed.. had to eat.
Sounds like you're fairly new to all this.. if you can't get the 2 boxes to talk ethernet I'd just recommend burning the 15 CDs.. shouldn't take that long and will cost $15 tops.
