I am putting together a proposal for a possible client who wants a site for his record store. The site would include a database driven inventory of the store that the client would like be be able to update himself. I am not very good at database stuff but do want to take a shot at the project if I can hire a PHP developer to handle that end of it. What does something like this cost? Anyone inetrested can contact me via email.
Thanks in advance

$40-$100/hour, and many hours - contact specific devs for quotes.
You're PROBABLY better off finding something like osCommerce (free, open source PHP store) that will handle quantities/etc automatically, and also give him instant online presence.
That's what I'd do, anyway.

Anyone used osCommerce and have any feedback on it?
Ideally, I would love to spread the wealth, provided that the end product is easy to manage and update. Thanks to those who've contacted me so far.

I am sure that you will find no shortage of interested parties here.
What would the production schedule look like? when?, how long?

would a PHP expert be handling the shopping cart aspect of the site as well or is that more of just applying one of the shopping carts that come with a hosting plan?

oscommerce would be perfect for what you are looking for. Not the best looking design wise but highly customizable with simple css and image replacing. I set up oscommerce in 20 minutes on my server.
tons of community contributions for add ons and such.
good luck
