Hi.
we are running a student ecodesign competition in conjunction with industry (it will be its fourth year now)
I'm just doing a little scan to see what other product design comps (hopefully new) are out there.
thanks

actually, any student competition that tries to give students live projects with industry would do.
thanks again

thanks designerror but I did check those
Nairn - it has been general ecodesign with a brief focussing on a particular material or product range. It is for second year students so they should be beginning to develop stronger skills and begin to be able to incorporate research and sustainability thinking into their design - and hopefully develop these further into later projects. The industrial partners have been great at provide technical guidance which is always good for a student comp. They also cough up the prize money and seek to develop any product that is viable.
some of the reasons i want to look at similar comps is because I want to get an idea of how they are handling Intellectual Property issues. There has been general agreements in the past but we want to be in a proper legal position in the future because we are thinking about making the comp. international.

sounds interesting lowimpakt, i'm glad to hear that this sort of thing is going on - it'd be interesting to see some of the ideas that come from it - or at least the roads that people are taking.
i'm kind of trying to work out how i can be useful 'ecologically' - i've set aside some time and am semi-deluding myself that i can come up with a sound, worthy eco-idea within a year and start a business from it.. (ha ha ha!)
if not, i'm thinking of doing an 'eco tour' next year - go check out sustainable projects/communities around europe. first i've got to get myself an old Land Rover that runs on BioDiesel though! :)

nairn - drop me a email if you have any questions. Most of my time now is spend dealing with senior policy makers, small businesses and large producers - mainly in the EEE sector because of certain legislation that is coming through.
seeing the world from all sides now.
but you may be surprised by the growth in 'eco-business' and the realisation that sustaianbility is good for competitiveness. and it is great from my perspective that ecodesign has moved to the top of business and policy agendas.

oh and for those that were interested here is another eco/sustaianble design competition for students
