I can't seem to make any changes to my php.ini file show up within phpinfo(). I can modify the actual file and it saves the changes but they aren't being applied to php. Anyone else run across this problem?
(I'm running xp pro)

restart apache.

I'm using IIS for development purposes. I've tried restarting that and the changes still don't take effect.

strange... any php.ini change should appear after the server's restarted....
- gabriel20
yeah, that's what I though. I've updated php.ini files remotely before and the changes showed up immediately. funny thing is, I can actually delete the php.ini file and it still runs perfectly fine.

wat are you using to edit the .ini file? make sure there are no extra extension after 'php.ini.txt'.
restart the your pc too. although i am using apache mine worked just fine on win xp.

hello, sorry to intrude but maybe you can answer me:
when your're connected, to what extend does your computer gets vulnerable when you install apache+php for development purposes? is there any way to make sure you won't be abducted in 3 secs.
and yes, I'm ashamed of being such a rookie.
thx!

vsc, i have a specific port open for development on my machine. Also if you have a decent firewall you won't really get effected.

hmm, i'm really a noob at this.
last night i installed xxamp, trying to figure out how php works. i need to understand it to draw a webpage in a site where the client drops drawings+images; the script reads the folder and outputs stuff in a frame with a prev/next button.
xxamp, i think, opens ports 80, 443 (Apache) and port 3306 (MySQL).
i only have the default xp firewall. i guess i'm in deep trouble, no? can i specify somewhere in windows which ports to defend?
- cosmo0
I am sure windows firewall will allow you open specific ports, but i user zone alarm.

a good firewall will prevent [most] surprises....
and use the latest releases of php/apache and/or mysql.
- cosmo0
yup, latest releases of all three are awesome. also phpmyadmin latest release is great.
- unfittoprint0
yeah,
altough I had a some problems configuring it to work with php5, a couple of releases ago...

thx! really nice stuff, cosmo.

Most likely cause is that you're editing the wrong php.ini file - standard installer actually creates two copies (one in C:\php\ and one in C:\windows\ ), check your phpinfo() output to make sure you're editing the right one. The config file path should be in the top block.

yeah in IIS it will by default use the ini in c:\windows
And no restart or even service resetting should be needed. Also, a lot of thintgs that seem like php settings (max file upload, etc) also need to be changed in the IIS metabase.
