saw it last night. man! was that different than the book. that said, it was still, funny in the nostalgic way of remembering being a kid, scary in all the right parts, but felt so rushed! even as much as it was edited. i liked it regardless of all that, had a fun, SO beautifully shot! all the landscapes were lovely. but i wonder for someone who hadnt read the book, how they feel about it. i was disappointed in the lack of scooby-doo convoluted mystery feeling.....

i saw it last night too (working on 3 hours of sleep) and it was well worth it.
i hated that they had to cut out some of the stuff they did, but i understand that happens when converting a book to a movie.
well directed. ralph fiennes was great. beautiful shots. loved the darkness of it all.
can't wait to see it again.

Adults + Harry Potter =
Odd.

anyone + good story = obvious
just because the main character is a teenager doesn't mean it is just for kids. i don't have to be a jedi to like star wars, a gangster to like the godfather, a hobbit to like lord of the rings.
one of the cool things is that the books mature as the characters do. and they are all so well written.
all that said..i did feel the same way as you before i read the books.
and i felt sorry for the people that were acting out scens before the movie last night...anything taken to to levels is just odd.

sorry..i prefer to go by my own opinions...even if they don't match those of some dude i care nothing about and never even heard of.
what books and movies you love are such an individual decision. if you have a favorite food...are you going to like it less because someone else thinks it taste like shit

I'm seeing it tomorrow night.
The HP are aimed at children but by the end of the series they will be aimed at late-teens. Other fantasy characters are also based on teenagers: spiderman etc.
The books really do get quite dark I wouldn't be surprised if the last couple of films are given a 15 rating. A long way from the childish first film which is where a lot of people make their mind up from.

There's only one thing to do when a Harry Potter thread pops up:
"Harry Potter and the Random Act Of Petulence"

wooooohoooo, seeing it tomorrow evening and I can't wait. I see the film as part of my birthday celebration, since every year it comes out it's during November.
I like that HP's audience is primarily my age because we grew up with him (I'm 19 now but got the first book when I was around 13, for my birthday), so I'm not made fun of being an adult.
There are so many other books that have young teens as the main characters and what are known as 'young-ppl stereotypes' in the novel, but a lot of those stereotypes are constructed by society.
So no, I don't think anyone is really too old for HP.

(Nov 18 05, 13:56)I know what you mean. I think that's the only thing I don't like. They may have to cut their hair or something. Here's a quote from IMDB:
"A digital 'spot removing' technique (which had previously been used for such TV shows as "Desperate Housewives" (2004)) was applied in post-production to clear up some of the more severe teen skin problems, since make-up tested poorly for close-up shots in particular."
