AE mask question

Hi,
I want to place a vector shape from illustrator directly to a mask in after effects. So i can easly animate the mask. How can i do this. I know its possible.

copy and paste. copy the illu vector. paste in AE.

Meaning you want to be able to animate the shape of the mask?
If this is the case, just go to your preferences in ai and go to the clipboard and check aicb and preserve paths.
Select the shape you want as a mask and copy. Then in ae, select the layer for the mask and paste.

Nope there isn't a possibility for the clipboard in the prefs.

go to..... in illy > preferences > file handling & clipboard.....

what version of illustrator are you running?
Also, once the path is a mask in ae it will rasterize the solid, so be careful. Can't zoom in to tight.
