Can anyone recommend a good KVM switch, I'm trying to hook up 2 PC's and 2 Macs, so a 4-port would be perfect. I'm having trouble finding a solution with USB inputs on the back. Perhaps they use some sort of USB to PS/2 cable, I'm lost.

I just got this...

Not the best, but I needed it for 2 pcs and a mac and for $50, it was the best one. PS/2 and USB.

Does it come with cables? What types do you use with it? That seems like a great solution, I've been figuring it's going to cost much more.

Sadly, I ordered it yesterday morning. So I can't give you a review just yet. If you don't mind waiting a few days, then I can set it up and let you know how it works. The reviews that I read were really good though.

Does that KVM require you to use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse? From reading the description, it sounded as if that was the case (that it would output to different systems via USB but that the keyboard/mouse input had to be PS/2)?!?

from the sounds of it, it might just be ps/2 for mouse and keyboard inputs. isn't a problem for me, but ill let whoever know if it accepts usb keyboard or mouse inputs.

a mix of DVI and VGA out would be nice...
(I've got 2 Macs and 1 PC, so 3 keyboards, running to 2 displays...)

From what I can tell you'd have to use adapters for using that with a USB keyboard/mouse. Something like this.

It seems sort of ridiculous to me that a KVM Switch that inputs only USB and outputs only USB doesn't exist. Can anyone tell me why this would be? Or am I just searching in the wrong places.

This is what you want:

I have an older Belkin and it's been great. Their customer support is close to he best I've ever dealt with and have won me over as a long time customer.
When you go to check out, type in 12345678 (or something close to that) and you'll get 50% off....but shhhhhhh, don't tell anyone!

Thanks mbr. So I'm guessing that the one usb port is enough to send both the mouse and keyboard info around? Is it a split cord?
- mbr0
Not sure. I'd give 'em a call.
Mine is an older non vga with only PS2 connections. My mouse has one of those adapters on it and works as normal (it's a multi button MS Intellimouse Explorer and works fine).

I used to use the Aten KVM switches at a place I built machines a few years ago, they're sturdy units, with easy navigation through your various machines via the keyboard or the KVM.

Just an update for anyone that cares...
The one that I got does infact have the 2 ps/2 but also has 3 usb inputs. then the usb outputs are a-b and handle everything but the vga.
my only complaint is that I had to go buy another monitor cable, but other than that, it's pretty amazing about $45. Super fast switch time too.
