Buy a new Powermac?

I'm trying to buy a new machine and am wondering what the perspective is on the new Powermacs (not the quad). Are they the last of a dying breed? Would it be worthwhile to wait 10 months and pick up the one with Intel chips. I know it's all speculation but I'm pretty far out of the loop right now. Planning on using my purchase extensively for the next 4-5 years.
Any help would be appreciated.

g5 will serve you well for 4-5 years. I think it will be longer than 10 months before intel processors are in powermacs.

look at it this way, a good apple system will cost you around 5-6k. you should be able to do two or three projects freelance and pay for it ALL. so 4-5 years from now, if you still can't get the money out of what you invested into your machine, then i would start worrying...

or you can always buy Dinky's powerbook for $1.00.
i heard he offers life time warranty .

G5s are great, and they work so well! We have several at work, and I have my own at home that I bought 2 yrs ago.
I'm going to wait until the new Macintel come out, but only because I already have one.
However if I were in your situation I'd buy it now, just because the first new Intel Macs might have some issues, software is not going to be totally recompiled, and stuff like that.
That's what I did when apple transitioned from the 68000 series to the PowerPC. And I found that it was teh right decision.

thanks.
Just glad they weren't overwhelming "Don't Buy" answers. Good point about the Intel Mac bugs, and the possibility of waiting 2 years or so by which time my current setup would probably be thrown out the window.
Wish I could afford the cinema display. /drool
Thanks.
If anyone's still reading this, are you going to be able to run windows on a mac and vice versa?

susan. look in the 'deals' section on the apple store site. you can save a ton of money right now on a few g5s in there.
