take it to your local apple store and demand a new one anyway, and tell them it nearly burnt your house down.

Also i would bring it to a near apple store.. but lol the close's one is.. 8 hours away.. or 11 hours away if i go to Vancouver...

in my house 3 people have powerbooks, two have had to get new powerleads after sparking. fucking terrible, 2 guys at work have had the same problem.
my girlfriend also had the same problem apple sent 4 leads before sending the right part, took 7 phonecalls, and she had to pay £7 p&p... this was in warranty.
fuckers.

Oh yeah the cord that plugs into the power supply on mine started to arc too. I have ye old yoyo type power transformer for my powerbook.
apple replaced it for free after 3 years.
now budvar or leffe tonight?
- nooner0
macally makes a nice replacement power supply. the piece of shit apple gave me broke after a year. the cord is just way to thin and there is no insulation on it. fire hazard for sure.

dude, just drive to an apple store, if you have an apple care plan you should be golden.
quit bitching
- slappy0
yeah 11 hours drive, 11 hours schmive
- tileeater0
this happened to me and no matter how much bitching and complaining i did about my house nearly burning down helped any... i got the usual, "our products are perfect and infallible" bullshit and had to pay $80 for a new one.

call apple and say you are preparing work for a design seminar on monday, and it wont look too favorably for apple if they dont overnight a power cord to you

Hey all, I got my new power adapter today. Only took 6 long... long days without a computer. And after demanding to Apple that I wanted to file a fire hazard complaint about the adapter itself. Also after a bunch of question, such as did it “spark” and did you call the fire department "Which I said no, because I am on the fire department" which is true, they decided to get things going, not to mention I was pissed off! With such events, Apple sent out a power adapter to me that same day. Which saved me a extra 2-4 more days of wait”. By the way Apple waved the power adapter charge after all of this. So at this time I can forgive Apple, But I Just hope when the new PowerBooks come out Apple will redesign the power adapter.

I prefer ORANGES!

warrantys do that to you. companies program their products to last +2 -4 months after your warranty expires

the exact same thing happened to me with my 1ghz 17"... Apple sent me a new one no charge as well.
if you look at the new adapter you'll see they added a little bit of plastic at the base of where the thin wire goes into the adapter... keeps it from bending too much which in turn is what caused the short... i wonder how many others had this happen.
