looking at Fireworks for screen-based layout design. Any experiences - pro/con?

fireworks is the BEST for web design!! i can't tell you how much people rip on fireworks, but if they actually learned how to use it, it is phenomenal. the workflow is fast, editing linework and type is better than photoshop. and it is actually fun to use.
i used to rip on it big time, until my friends convinced me to actually learn it.
it is all i use to design now. it has its flaws, but only if you are trying to do color correcting type of stuff.

I use to love Fireworks, but with web features added to Photoshop, it's still my choice...plust 95% of the work I do is print so whatever.

Fireworks is quick and fast. Adobe's programs just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

i use fireworks almost exclusively for digital work. although it was a resource hog on the mac in previous versions, this latest version seems to have cleaned it up a lot. in my opinion, it's the best tool for user interface development, and a great tool for digital illustration.

If you love the smell of bloated code...
Is it still that way? I used to be pretty fond of PS and ImageReady, until I realized how much junk ImageReady puts into a page.
Don't know why I would use it now.
Just curious, what aspects of Fireworks are ones you count on and use frequently?

(Oct 17 05, 18:07)i use the vector tool almost exclusively. it's nice that fireworks has some bitmap editing capabilities, but they're still far inferior to photoshop's. that being said, most of the tools available in illustrator are there in fireworks, but the interface is far more streamlined in fireworks. the pen tool is a great example of this. in illustrator, you have an add a point tool (pen tool with a plus, a subtract point tool (pen tool with a minus), and a handles tool. in fireworks, the pen tool replaces these three. if you click on a line/path, then it adds a point. if you click on a point and it has handles, then it removes the handles. if you click on a point without handles, then it removes the point. if you press, hold, and drag on a point, then it creates handles. might sound complicated, but it's really intuitive if you use it. the best feature is the way they handle gradients and transparency. the opacitiy points are directly on the color picker, and you can add/remove points as easily as you add/remove colors in your gradient. i can go on and on...

Not going to say anyone is wrong for what they use - I used to religiously use Image Ready for rollovers, all the slices, stuff like that. THEN put it into Dreamweaver and do the HTML aspects of a page.
Now, after having learned quite a bit of CSS and applying the same approach as developing a layout in Photoshop as if I were setting up for tables, it's really the right mix I like. My coding has gotten much better, and it seems second nature now to do rollovers or other similiar things.
