I would like to get one. Is the type expensive? or do you have one that can use paper plates?

i buy the type from Don Black in Toronto, and he has tons and tons of it, but yeah, it can be about 150 bucks a drawer, but it depends on the weight. i have three drawers, times 10 12 and 24 and also some italic times 12.
this is his website, they sell all types of machines and if you call, they probably have the one you want. they get c&p pilots a lot, for example. THey fix them all up very nice with new rollers.

Cool topic, sort of related, don't mean to side track.
Do any of you know any letterpress printers in toronto (maybe some of you who have presses can help), I want to get my business cards printed, 2 colour, but Im probably going to need to do it w/ photopolymer since Im planning on using newer typefaces.

the people at Don Black know of places in TO doing business in letterpress. you could contact them to find out. also, any type or line art can be engraved these days for use on letterpresses....it is usually around 5 bucks a square inch.

NegativeSpace there used to be a few York Design cats who were doing printing/experimental off a letterpress. I can't think of their website off the top of my head though. They could probably hook you up.

the complaint department i think you are refering to, great work and have collected quite a few of their printed materials from around Toronto.
Unfortunately,,,,I emailed them but they never returned my emails, so I don't know whats up with them :(
I have access to a letterpress next semester in my design program, but not sure I am going to have the craftsmanship required to print my cards and letterhead after just learning how to do it.
