hiya!
this might not be the best place to ask this kind of question, but can't hurt to try. i'm coming to austin for the holiday season and was hoping to find a nice spa/luxury/sit-in-mud-and-eat-po... type place up in the hill country where i might be able to take me dear ol' mum for a bit of r+r.
if anyone in or near austin or san antonio knows of such a place or has the kind of ladies to hand who might know of such a place, i'd love to see a url or two.
many thanks,

I'll ask my parents, they live in New Braunfels in the Hill Country. My favorite part of Texas!

wahey! ta, mg. it's sooooo beautiful around there. i'm really excited to drive around on the little highways with the birch forests and streams. i'm sure there must be a nice place that's not too kitschy or snooty up there somewhere.

eh, there are no birch trees down there. I think you mean live oak trees and mesquite trees?
I love that area, been going down there since I was 7. My family had land down there when I was in junior high, lots of camping and hiking and stuff.
Have you been there many times?
If you want any other suggestions:
Make sure you take a drive down River Road, all along the Guadalupe River. I've ridden my bike along the whole thing a few times back when I was racing road bikes.
Also, the dam at Canyon Lake is one of my favorite places. When I'm down there from Chicago I usually drive up there, walk halfway out, and sit for an hour or two just to clear my mind.

probably! i just have memories of driving through there as a little kid on my way to my grandma's house in galveston and feeling like it was the last plateau before we hit the jungle every time. i've always been prone to false memories...
thanks so much for the other suggestions, too. i'll definitely make a note of them. cheers!
