i am trying to dynamically load the contents of a folder (containing swf`s) into a flash movie and order them into a list based on there file names. is this possible??

dynamically loading an entire directory requires that the dir be indexed. Which flash can't do, but a simple php-to-xml script could.
Once you have your array in XML outputted from PHP, pull it into flash, and sort the array with arrayName.sort()

adding to previous post:
use php's readdir to read the directory's contents.
http://pt.php.net/readdirphp's eregi to filter only swf files
http://pt.php.net/eregifor each loop include a $node to the $xml string
include an xml header within the php code and echo the $xml string.
use flash xml object to load the results.
