apparently to get an InDesign CS2 file to open up in CS!, you need to export as an exchange file and then get a plug in for CS1
what is the plug-in

they tried doing that when they came out with ID2, but then on the site they had to say "sorry, not possible at this time." I'm trying to check the site again but i can't friggin log in >:(

You can get it on the Adobe website (this is the Mac one):

that's why I've been afraid to upgrade

I think the lack of compatibility is absurd. It seems silly and fishy to me.

what's all this fuss aboot?
Just save as an interchange file from cs2.
It will open fine in cs1. just make sure you have it updated to 3.0.1 (free).
I've had no problems with CS2. i love it.

I've done this. You need to upgrade your CS1 first (3.0.1), then from CS2 save as InDesign Interchange. Should open OK, but you might have to re-save as CS1.
