When looking for a job do you guys use a portfolio site design to attract possible employers or do you guys use a site design to attract possible clients?

I have a separate portfolio site I show to potential employers. It's an interesting topic. I like how some peoples site work as business sites and employment sites at the same time.

Personally just a straight-up portfolio, but I was never really trying to drum up freelance work, yet I do get lot's of inquiries for freelance through my site..

Why can't it do both?

I myself find it difficult to use the same site for both. When I freelance I use my Business site. I could see myself showing my business site to a Ad Agency or Studio, they might see it as conflict of interest to hire me.

I think it can be both but generally you'd want to stay away from the 'marketing speak' you'd see on a more business oriented website on a portfolio site..

Also from a design point a portfolio site tends to be more clean and less graphical. In my experience a business design site tends to be more flashy trying to grab your clients attention.

I think you're all reading into it a bit too much...

For me the difference may be wanting to have different text information geared towards a potential clients vs an employer. Also for some reason I wouldn't want to put my resume on a client geared site.

It all depends on what exactly you do and what kind of work you want to attract...
