i am really hating my job lately, but i told my boss i'd stay until next summer. in return he said he'd give me some perks.
i haven't seen any of the perks yet [it's been 2 months].
would it be so bad for me to quit?

no, I did...

talk to your boss about it.
people complain, but never brign the issues up to their employer.
don't be afraid of the confrontation. if you're not getting what you need/want, then how's your boss supposed to know?
If it's really that bad, i say, go with your heart. if that's quitting, so be it.

me too. my perk for 6 months of 70 hour weeks turned out to be a £50 meal. mmmmmm

i don't hate that i'm not getting perks. i could care less.
i do hate the way this company works though, and that isn't going to change no matter what i say to my boss.

what's so bad about it?

Someone save her from corporate hell!

what's so tough is that my boss thinks he's a designer and forces me to make this ugly crap which is terrible, then he gets mad at me for making it.
when i completely disregard his input i make some good stuff, and he usually likes it, but he ditches the project.
and i will work on things and every day he will change the copy / idea / project many times.
he can't get his fingers out of the pie no matter how much i tell him to just let me work.

i wasn't very articulate there.
what it boils down to is that my boss doesn't know what he wants, and therefore i can never please him.

Try to get another job, I am in the same position I have just recieved a tidy raise but I am going to leave , even if the money isn't as good!!!!111!!! I don't care about the money, I just need to be doing something I like rather than shit stuff for complete imbeceles,
An example,
client : can you take these tapes and make mp3's out of these songs please,?me : yes and how am I supposed to know what the song is?
client : are you not a fan of these groups?
me : one of them yes but the other twenty five I don't listen to. And they are recorded live and don't introduce the songs.

Sure know how you feel. I've just had a job offer and took it because I've been re-arranging assets for too long/ Fair enough I've had nice work out of the place, but sometimes you just need to go.
And there's nothing worse than a back seat designer (who's not even a designer). I mean, you'd not walk into a kitchen at a restaurant and show the chef how to make his eggs fucking benedict would you?!?!
I feel your frustration!

it sucks when your boss thinks they know what looks good more than they entrust you. that's my job.

ouch! well it sounds like a pretty normal situation sad but true... he's basically using you as a production bitch because he doesn't have the skillz... hmmm, you have to get creative about how to handle this situation, which might mean you are going to have to speak your mind when you engage dialogue with him. and frankly, your going to have to, else your going to quit anyway.
the next time you sit down with him for a brief on a project, when he starts giving you direction, write or draw it all down, ask him questions to get what he wants accurately done, sketch on a piece of paper would be idea. after he's finished, squint your eyes and tell him it's not going to look good, but if he gives you some room, you can take his ideas and make them look better....until you leave, sound like you just need to be more vocal about what you know about good design, maybe try that...

i'll stick it out.
i mean, i'm going to be looking for a new job, but in the meantime i'll just suck it up.
can't wait to quit!

is that why you're on NT so much? that happened to me at my last job too. i hated my job and started hanging out on NT a lot. i still got my work done, but i didn't care.
You should just get a new job or go freelance.
- anzelina0
pb, that's exactly it.
i still get the stuff done, but i don't care what it looks like anymore.
and i spend time here, although not as much lately.

3 months ago I said I had another offer from another company. I spoke with my boss and they gave me a slight raise. In July we had our yearly reviews, out of a possible '5' I scored a 4.5 with rave reviews. He said "this year we're going for the maximum raise. The minimum is 4.7% and no one in my department is going to get that. I'm shooting higher.
1.5 months later we're still waiting for our raise. Shit, there still hasn't been any mention of it.
I hear tomorrows check will reflect the raise. I'm thinking it's going to be shit or else they would have said something.
It's b.s. I knew I should have taken the other job.
