what's the best way to make a bmp file with text so it's very crisp?
- kyl30
aliased or anti?
- jdcomba0
"Graphics cannot contain any
anti-aliased shades of grey. Strictly black and white images saved as
bitmap format"
- jdcomba0
it needs to be 92x20pixels. i can't get it to be all smooth?
- kyl30
photoshop for crisp text
- radar0
bitmaps are generally chunky looking.
- jdcomba0
kyl3, are you saying if I create the whole thing in photoshop it will be crisp?
- jdcomba0
I'M TRYING IT 95X20 AND IT'S ALL PIXELY?
- kyl30
jd, what is your final specs and usage? its a banner, yes? flash or static?
for small text, use device fonts at even numbered sizes; verdana, arial at 9, 10 ,11 pts. Set your text in PS to none in the anti alias palette.

you know ... 92 x 20 pixels isn't a lot of real estate. I presume your producing this for the web?
I would be using photoshop it has pretty good text anti -aliasing options for text.
I mean if you do it in illustrator your going to have to rasterize it anyway right?
- jdcomba0
final is going to be a WAP ad. cell phone banner. the font provided is that of the client.
- Beech0
... and kyl3's advise is good :)
- jdcomba0
i'm just not used to this photoshop text stuff. haven't done it in a long itme.
- jdcomba0
where's the anti alias pallate? i'm an asshole, sorry.
thansk kyl3
- jdcomba0
yeah, i checked those out. i type it and its just so super messy. i'm not sure what i'[m missing here, but it's probably something really dumb.
- kyl30
sorry, character pallette, you might have to expand the options to get aliasing settings
- kyl30
and if you are using a pixel font what size is it optimized for? should be part of the name. You can only use at that size or multiples of, 8, 16, 24...
- jdcomba0
not a pixel font. the client has supplied us with a corrupted font. i've been told to use something similar for now. so i'm using like friggin garamond.
- kyl30
yeah garamond would be impossible to get crisp at small sizes

i think i was forced to use a bitmap format once. then i stopped working with that client.
