heya fellas.
i interviewed with an art school a few months back about their game design courses but got a bit nervous when i heard the ballpark price.
i shouldn't let that affect my decision as it is something that i've always wanted to try. so i'll pay the price to learn from good teachers.
any of you go to gaming school or have any info that might be helpful? im still in the very very rough, thumbnail sketch phase of my planning.
i can't imagine what it would be like to go back to college now, but i'm curious and just crazy enough to try. young whipper-snappers beware.

isnt there a gaming school in kansas or colorado...i seen ads for 1 in PSM or something to that effect and there was a giant article on the gaming school itself like 9 pages front and back...
basicly i remember that only a limited amount of people get in, and very little stay with the program as its extremely boring, although some people find it exciting to make the code while most people just want to play it!!!
i threw out all my old mags, but there are many people here who are hardcore gamers, one of them must have it.
:)

oh it was durning august from last year, i think gaming montyhly or something...it was listed on the cover of the mag...google it!!!

thanks pill. i'll look that up when i get home.
i figured there are enough gamers in here to fill me in, but it is pretty quiet at the moment.
they must all be fighting the forces of darkenss right now. :)

I think UCLA and the University of Southern California have some gaming related studies. I went a game design skool in australia, but that might be too far away....

i recommend Resident Evil 4 (gamecube). great atmosphere, fun and creepy as hell. should keep you busy for a while.
though if you really want extended entertainment... i'd say go with World of Warcraft. monthly fees are worth it if you have the time. :)

thanks ghost. Southern Cal is currently on my list. hehe. nice to hear reinforcement.
i keep seeing aussie schools popping up in my searches. they seem to have some good things going on.
honestly, that isn't too far away. the only thing that would keep me from it is simple ignorance. i don't know what all is involved in applying for school out of the country. i'd be willing to check it out if i knew where to find good starting point.
what school did you did you attend?

the resident evil series is my favorite and i have the mall and 100% on all!
:)
something like those and not like warcraft though.
i was in the stores yesterday but couldnt find something i could settle on.
suggestions?

I went to a school called qantm but i actually wouldn't recommend it, i learnt most of what i know by getting a job in the industry. There is a course at QUT (brisbane) that my freind runs and then there is RMIT (melbourne) which I think must have something. It also depends on what area you wanna specialise in......

hmm... if you haven't tried Metroid Prime, i think you'd dig it. i hear good things about the sequel as well.
hard to go wrong with a Zelda game on the cube.
i dont buy many PS2 or Gamecube games. Doom3 for PC impressed me though i hear some folks don't share my feelings.

i loved metroid prime.
i havent touched a zelda game since the snes verison which is the besst one for me.
perhaps thats what i need to do...zelda.

well ghost, i figure i've got a pretty solid background to work on UIs, but i'd really want to focus on learning 3d modelling, textures and the like.
i'm sure i'd want to learn some basic animation skills, but i understand that most courses start you with basics in all areas.
then you can choose whatever you happen to be best at. it would be a waste of time for me to gon into programming. i'd suck. :ppill, ocarina of time is a bit older, but worth every penny. you'll love it! i think it is still rated one o the best all-around games period. fantastic!
windwaker is also sweet, but i'd go with ocarina first. :D
