I saw 2 motorbike accidents this week, 1 on Monday and 1 this morning.
Fucked up.

motorbike ridding is really dangerous. almost every motorbike rider that it know had already an accident

one thing to do, go to your nearest bar and order a mind-eraser

My cousin got side-swiped by some old man in a car and thrown off his bike. Luckily didn't have any broken bones, just a big gash on his leg thats slowly healing.
He wasn't in the wrong so insurance got him new leathers, helmet, gloves and a new (faster eeek) bike.

Not trying to put all bikers in the same box here but you sometimes wonder why there aren't more accidents. Most of them here drive like fucking idiots, waving in and out of traffic, doing wheelies outside scools.
I can't wait till the snow starts a'fallin and they garage their cockrockets.

I agree.
Cockrockets is funny.

Never fall off your bike travelling at terrific speeds, you'll end up talking like me

agreed. but i still want one for riding to and from work to save gas.
not a cockrocket. just a simple bike. nothing special.

My Ma proceeded to tell me of a friend who'd seen a motorcyclist decapitated on the way to work. The Head/Helmet flew past her car.

i haven't had an accident yet...and i've been riding for a year and a half.
Wrecks just come with the territory. It's a combination of people in cars not seeing bikes, and bikers pulling retarded stunts.
people who do wheelies on the street, or stoppies at redlights are just asking for trouble.

I don't have a license for a bike (the major thing that stops me is the insurance, i was quoted 14K a year for a ZX9R) but my main concern would be to make sure that other people noticed me. I know from experience it's so goddamn easy to miss a bike in the mirror as you're switching lanes, especially if they're coming atcha doing 100 mph. I think I would put one of those orange flags kids have on their bikes on mine.

A ZX9R? for your, i'm assuming, first bike? That is another problem, people buy bikes beyond their riding ability. try something like this.

you guys should visit jakarta sometimes.
run red lights, ride on the opposite lane. think of any traffice laws you can think of i'm quiet sure most motorcycle riders here have broken all of them.
scary stuff.

yeah, those BWM's are really cool. i see people riding them in all kinds of weather conditions...rain, on dirt, etc.
the problem is that i hear they're expensive to maintain. I don't know, you might see if you can talk to someone who owns one.

jox, you had a GS? fuckin nice.
I actually just sold my 95 honda last night, and i'm buying a bmw r1100 in 2 weeks.
i've been down a few times, but it's much harder to ride in nyc than just about anywhere else in this country, i think.

I see. Yeah I probably have to read up a *lot* before I even consider anything. But I own two classic italian scooters (that are more like mopeds in terms of performance) that also needs a lot of maintaining so I suppose I have the energy to fix smaller stuff that breaks (because those things breaks after every other drive around the block, but they are charming in a way)
- jox0
enjine, nope but I am considering one. I love how you get the feeling you can go anywhere, kind of like an SUV but without the guzzling of gas and the angry treehuggers chasing you down the street.
- jox0
Very nice! That's your first one?
I just heard two seconds ago on the news that they are trying out airbags on bikes now! Isn't that funny!

i've been toying with the idea of getting something small and cheap, like a ninja 250 (i am not a big strong dude, so that's enough for me).
i'd love to get one, but every time i think of these accidents i get scared. :(
