Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a domain for my family. My family name is Vive, and since the good url's are taken, I was wondering if I could make a french twist on it, like:
Is this spelled correctly?
What does it mean, excactly?Merci :)

Hi lnu,
"Vive la famille" means "hail to the family" or something like that ... it's not easy to translate, but when you say "Vive ..." means that you support something or encourage it.
And yes the spelling is correct.

Ok, cool. Does it even mean "Vive - the family"?
- lustor0
you might have to change "la" to "le" for "the family".
but i'm not completely sure about that...
- spl33nidoru0
no, famille is la famille, not le.

Also, Vive - The Family would be La Famille Vive in french.
The Simpsons kind of thing... La famille Simpson or Les Simpsons.
Tell us what you exactly want, might be easier.

vive la famille means long live the family
la famille vive means the live family, or the lively family

Except in that case Vive is the last name. So people will assume La Famille Vive means The Vive Family.
If "vive" isn't a last name, "la famille vive" doesn't mean anything in French.

right...although la famille vive just sounds awkward to me when used in that fashion.
we don't call our family "la famille wolf"...it's just "les wolf".

right -sputnik-
Are you from Quebec ? Something like "les wolf" sounds more americanized (not the last name itself).
In france (and though i never used that) we would still say "la famille wolf", maybe bourgeois remains.
Can't believe we're talking that much about all that :)

hehe...true! i am from paris, and most of my family and friends will say 'je vais chez les raymonds" and that sort of thing. it is common, but you are right that it is probably an americanization.

'vivelafamille' Would go as
'hooray for the familly''lafamillevive' would stand for:
'the familly with enrrgy', or somthing like that, but the use, at least in french is really not common use, and, well, not that good at all..spelling is #1

Thankayoos.
I wanted to see if I could get both meanings into the same name.
