"I open the television, there's people still there, waiting to be rescued, and for me it's not acceptable," she said
I dont Celine Dion should be left to tamper with TV equipment. She might be electrocuted and could be horridly disfigured...

Is that advertisement a bit insensitive or what?

gee, I dunno. If I went to New Orleans right now I'd bring a camera.
That said, Penn does seem to grab rthe spotlight with this stufr, good or bad.
The only celeb that has actually impressed me in NO is Harry Connick Jr. I have a lot more respect for this dude. He's truly hreartbroken about his hometown...

Hey at least he is out there, on the bote getting his hands dirty, pulling people out, if there is a camera, that is publicity for him yes, bu he is still out there..
The president, had 7 channels following him around, from gound, air and sea, and you only see him walking "hugging" these 2 girls for a few minutes..
You don't say anything about that?

don't make emokids fist talk to you

If a celebrity goes and tries to help and the press makes it look good (ie. this person was brave, careing, selfless) then the good it does is to motivate more people to help out and put energy into it. If the press decides to make said celebrity look like a dumbass then well, people will have to use thier brains a little harder and form an opinion for themselves.
Sometimes actors/actress will do this stuff for selfish reasons, but it's easily detectable. in Sean Penn's case, I believe he was genuinely concerned and trying to help.

critical cunt, what are you doing to make things better?

(Sep 5 05, 01:37)Hey Celine, go ahead, go on down to the place, start helping by running the generators that are being used to pump out stagnant stinking water in 85 to 90 F weather. go on like a good little muppet

i always listen to celebs. somehow being rich and famous makes them EXCELLENT with politics, so i feel I MUST listen to what they have to say.
case in point. martin sheen. against war. YES! but it somehow loses a bit seeing as how he's stared in seven war movies. i guess it's ok to be paid a few million to be in a war movie and speak out against war.
cool.

[some] americans have problems with "celebrities" having an opininon/helping_
_wich is a lot
compared to their own inaction.
besides. Sean Penn is übercool.

(Sep 5 05, 08:19)That's a bullshit point. How many of those war movies are pro-war? Most are made to convey the horror of it, and maybe stop some thick grunt from signing up in the first place.
- todelete__20
no it's not. don't be angry with me because i'm right.
if you're going to be against war take a real stand and say no to a couple million to star in a movie about it.
and how many war movies actually made to pump up war? wtf.
- todelete__20
oh, and moth. maybe you've never heard of the movie he starred in.... 'the FORTUNES of war'. circa 1993.
makes war sound pretty damn good to me no?
:)

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm00006…
now that i'm looking it's more like he's starred in 10 war movies.
i love this guy!
would you count 'hot shots! part deux' as a war movie? i would. so real. so moving. i laughed. i cried. i paid 12.95 a ticket.
