i just got a brand spankin' new dell. i ordered the 19 inch E193FP Analog Flat Panel LCD monitor...it looks amazing (design), but...the display is HORRID! especially when its a white bg with black text...it gives me a headache.
so im probably gonna send it back and search for a new display...i was looking at this:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/i…anyone have experience with viewsonic LCDs or this model in particular? or perhaps someone can recommend one that isnt too expensive that performs well

it might be the color profile?

or more likely resolution issue..
....lcds have a native resolution.

i dunno man...ive read a bunch of reviews online and like 8 out of 10 describe the same problem i have
"good monitor but horrible for reading text"
last night after like an hour i had a crazy headache from viewing webpages (black text on white bg)
- kinetic0
it says it can handle a res of 1280 x 1024 and thats what i have it set at with 60hz (recommended)
- takashi0
native resolution is 1,280 x 1,024.
check if your system is set to that res.
- takashi0
ok, then its not a res problem;-)

hehe
yeaman, its a weird issue.
it makes black text on a white bg look really pixelly and almost not even there (like really thin)
its disappointing cause the monitor looks so sick and fits so nice with my new sys ;)

ya, most likely a combo of native resolution and maybe you are not using DVI.
We have lots of dell LCDs and many people I know of them. They are very good monitors. I think something is just wrong with yorus or your settings
- kinetic0
hmm true..could be a setting
guess ill give old dell a shout before i go sending it back and all that bs

the 193fp is dell's lowest quality monitor. it's not the color profile or a screwy resolution. just a shitty cheap monitor. dell DOES make nice monitors though, they're just a tad more expensive. i had a 1901fp that was good, but now i use a 2405 and the color is dead on for an lcd. super nice :)

I'm rocking a Dell 2005FPW 21" widescreen and i have to say its ace. All the reviews I read beore buying rated it highly - might be worth looking a little higher up their range (or sorting the one you've got)?

aye, i use three 2005FPW's on my main machine and they're great. one had a problem with image persistance but they sent me a new one post-haste. they're the same lcd panel as apple's 20" cinema display with a brighter backlight.
the 19" are completely different panels, and there's often a lot of complaints. the 2005FPW is currently going for $499 through Dell's Small Business store, so you're looking at a price jump of what, you spend $480 right? $20 for a far superior monitor.

oh i was looking at the wrong one. you got the budget 19", analog only. $309, then. you'd be looking at $200 difference and the suggestion is irrelevant. oh well.

well if Dell US does deals like Dell Uk I'd keep our eyes open - I got mine on a deal for £399 ($719) instead of the RRP of £500($901)
- vena0
yeah i think mine were around $390 each when i got them.
it's sick how much they mark shit up for the UK, though. that sucks.
- doddster0
tell me about it!
still, you get what you're used to etc...

i ordered the 5100 .. the LCD was a $110 or $210 upgrade (forget which) so i was like "damn right!!!"
haha
guess i should have read some reviews first
well, tonite im gonna give dell a shout and see if they can recomend some config that might work..if not, im gonna try and send it back and get a more badass screen
