Say you were in quark an applying negative tracking... I personally would only ever go to -5.
I am now using indesign in the back tracking seems messed up.
You have to go to say -20 before you get anywhere and on screen it doesnt look too bad.
How does one change the settings so it is more like quark??
Do any of you use a new rule in indesign for example that you would not go over say -30 or -40 or -50
You get the idea...
Also what is all this optical/metric or 0 jive??
Which one should I use??

i think some of the setting are just for open type fonts... i only use indesign so dunno about quark but yeah the 'optical' setting effects the kerning, generally things look abit neater but most my tracking ends up-25 to -50...

I'd go with the optical kerning, as it's a better setting for a well designed font.
As for + - tracking, all of the Adobe programs have the same issue compared to Quark. You need to go -50 in Illustrator for a -8 equivalent in Quark, and InDesign follows suit.
There may be a setting in Units preferences that changes the unit of measurement for tracking? Not sure.

Its a bit crapola if you ask me!
So really the I reckon you wouldnt want to go past -30 for a -5 equivelant
Thanks mate
