was wondering if any one has shot with reversal stock before- any opinions/advice?
has a great effect though maybe its safer to shoot negative and grade in post for such 'reversal effects' ?

probably your answer is in your question.
what are you actually trying to achieve?

thats the thing, am not sure//
am after a cross processing effeect.
i dunno. just thoiught maybe folk here had experiences with it. how it turned out.

well, if you're going into an ursa or similar telecine session then you can do what the hell you want, but if you're just gonna be going through a one light transfer then get the guy to high contarast the footage during that process and you'll be able to reverse it in AE or shake or whatever you want later... if i'm with your thinking then lighting the subjects as you're shooting them on the day will play a big part in how succesful you'll be on revesing footage...... depends if you have a VFX supervisor or not... if you dont have that luxury then maybe shoot some tests on DV with different lighting and do some tests before you burn your cash with 16mm????????

i have shot a lot on my super 8, and the color reversal is actually like shooting slide film in a 35mm.
color negative film returns a negative image, positive workprints would have to be made in order for you to see it in its correct color, to make film a telecine transfer would have to be done on it.
(very expensive)i have experimented with cross process with 35mm and the rule of thumb is the film will render out of the chemistry that you process it in.
IE. if you take any film negative/slide and process it in slide chemistry (E6) it will look like slide film. note the colors will be wacky for neg film but it will be a positive image. since the base of the film is the amber color.the same hold true with negative chemistry (C-41). this one is my personal fav, since the base of the slide film is totally clear. the colors get Real saturated especially if you slightly over expose the image.
i worked in a photo lab and had all of this chemistry at my disposal for 5 years. hell yeh i had some experiments! ;)

I think Rob Zombie recently shot the devil's rejects in that film

thanks for the info.
would have loved to work at a chem lab for the experience!
yeh- cross processed 35mm stills is aces, and love that effect.
though seem to be running into alot of heads up that 16mm reversal is very contrasty- am not sure if want to go 'very'- but do want the x-proc feel.
hmm// guess just have to make the decision.

test some Kodachrome and see what YOU think... everyone has their opinions. i love the kodachrome look. very 60s looking to me. the primary colors look amazing and saturated.
