So with the new release of Dreamweaver 8 I am wondering what are the HTML editing tools of choice out there. Esp for coding only not wsyiwig. To this day i am still using Homesite which i think is a preferred web dev tool over dreamweaver. But ever since Macromedia acquired Alliare there has been no updates to it. So i am wondering what are people using are they just using Dreamweaver cause there is no other choice. I am curious to hear. What are people doing hard core ASP, PHP and Coldfusion code in. I know Dreamweaver has a code view but that only works on the PC and is a bad knock off of homesite or coldfusion studio of the old days.

I'm using the PC Dreamweaver 8 Beta for CSS/Javascript/PHP/ASP and I love it. I used to hate Dreamweaver but now I doubt I'll use anything else. I don't think I've ever touched the design mode of it and rarely use any of the quick buttons. So for a handcoder like me, it's wonderful.
I've only used a few other editors, so I really can't give a wide comparison, but I'm satisfied now with DW8, so I doubt I'll look elsewhere.

hate to break it to you, but Homesite sucks. DW is really far superior to it, that's why Macromedia supports it!
Other than that, I use BBEdit or just a text editor though.

Of course, I use this tool because its a driven process that we execute. It's teamed with ClearCase which is a Source Control / Versioning application.
Actually, it's very nice.

Those new XML tools look too good to be true....
I use DW for hardcoding, and a simple text editor for some parts... usually to handle very large files which DW chokes on.

Crimson Editor:
http://www.crimsoneditor.com/or
TextPad
http://www.textpad.com/both are pretty good text editors with various abilities in syntax coloring and what not. TextPad has much better support for regular expressions, so I still use it quite a bit, but I like Crimson editor the most.
And both can be used for free (TextPad is shareware however)

I use PHP Designer for non-DW friendly stuff. But I'm no code monkey and someone here poo-poo'd it for being too cumbersome...I love it tho.
