We have produced a brochure for a client and managed the print and since then had reprints done (which we mark up)...Now the client wants the artwork to use somewhere else...
But that means they could send the artwork to another studio and use them in the future to amend and update it. So we are shooting ourselves in the foot.
How do you deal with clients that want the complete artwork to use as they please?

why have you got two threads for the same subject?

We have Terms and Conditions that state that we own the copyright...but this is our largest client and we don't want to annoy them by saying a straight no! They give us alot of work. Should they pay a artwork/copyright buy out fee of some sort?

you answered your own question.
yes.
you own the copyrights and just like anything else you own if someone wants it you either sell it or give it away or don't care.

Try and lower your print costs.
Either way, if they've paid for the design and you hadn't said otherwise they have every right to it.

Something similar happened to me recently. If this is a small job, you can just let it go. If the client uses the stuff for something else he'll 'show his colors'. If this is a big job and you had a LOT of trouble making this imagery, then the client should understand that he has to pay. It's a delicate thing and not so long ago I managed to irritate a client a bit. The problem is.... they KNOW that it should be paid work, but they're trying their luck because they know that they give you a lot of work. You should be good to clients, but clients should learn to be good. Basically, if it's a small job, look at it like an investment in the reletionship between u & the client.
