Hello everyone!
I want to promote my work or in other words make my work known but to be honest I don't know the proper channels! Where to look. I'm talking about art books that you can submit work to, publishers etc.
At the moment I'm more interested in showing off my illustration work.
So does anyone know any sources that are interested in looking at new work/new creators? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Are you a member of the Association of Illustrators? I guess that's first port of call. Also consider taking an entry in the Creative Handbook, I use it all the time at work, it's my bible!
However, both of the above aren't particularly 'proactive'. If you want to be commissioned by publishers of books / magazines etc etc then you could identify targets eg Penguin, call them to find out who is responsible for buying art and either send them a sample or and email with a link to your site (you might need a new illustration only site to avoid any confusion about what you are offering). Don't just stop at the big publishers of novels I have an illustrator friend who is always doing work for New Scientist magazine.
Helpful?
