what is it with flash and externally loaded jpg files?
when i load a 1024x768px image at 100% into a movieclip it looks good.
but when that movieclip is scaled (in this example to 100% of the Stage.width) the image gets totally wrecked.here's a screenshot:
is it possible to somehow leave this image smooth and nice when scaling it using actionscript?

no.
import the image to the size you want it to be in flash or 100%, don't scale or transform the in flash. Then you have no problems.

Is the upper image a 100% of the actual jpg?
And the lower a scaled up version af that jpg?
That would mean that the lower image is bigger than the original, of course you're going to lose some quality.

okay joyride, but when it's part of the concept i'm trying everything to make it work like i want.
this is the effect i'm using, but with more detailed images
(resize your browser window manually to see the effect)

Its just how flash handles bitmaps, which is poor.
You can go into the library+properties of the image your bringing in and just turn off smoothing. I have more luck with a PNG then jpgs but it will also make the file bigger.
There are some tricks to make it look better. but it will still look a little off when it scales. Do a google search on flash and bitmaps. theres some tips out there.
