forgot which keycombo it is, but there is one where you get a pic you can paste instead of the pdf
apple+shift+3/4 or something
useful when photoshopping

also apple+shift+4 and then the space key allow you to take a screenshot of an element only (window, icons in the dock, menu bar, you name it).

is there still a hot key combo that makes a little man with a laser walk across the screen. honestly i saw a guy do it at uni about 7 years ago.

Is the screengrab saved as a pdf on a mac?! Can you edit this pdf, i mean text and such?
- clerk0
don't think you can edit the pdf since it's saved w/ jpg compression.
- Nathan_Adams0
Plus on Tiger, the screenshot format has been changed to PNG

I see.
I was wondering because in TV-commercials for websites they often use like vectorized versions of "screengrabs" that fly by and whatnot.
- clerk0
that can be achieved with some screengrab software lnu

Also useful sometimes...
Finder > Help > Mac Helptype 'screenshot'
(wouldn't you hate to be the developer of the Help section that nobody ever uses?)
and...
Snapz Pro X

If you hold down shift during this process it places the "grab" on the paste board for you to stivk in your doc straight away.
Well you used to :/

command > control > shift > 3/4 allows you save the screenshot to your clipboard and paste anywhere
