Religious people are more tolerant of different viewpoints than atheists, according to researchers at a Catholic university.

The findings also said that the strength of a person's belief in either atheism or religion is directly correlated to how intolerant they are.

The results further suggest that, at least in secularized Western countries, where unbelief has progressively become normative, nonbelievers may be less socialized and less motivated to imagine, understand, and appreciate others’ perspectives.

The Catholics in my extended family are acutely aware of how some atheist friends and family can be slightly overly zealous, and as such go out of their way not to discuss religion or in any way antagonise - despite being just about the most open, tolerant, non-judgemental people you could meet.

I'm no fan of religion but I'm a fan of the few religious people I know.

Anecdotally at least, Morning_Star's article seems to have a grain of truth to it.

While organized religion, like any and all institutions of power in the modern age, can go fuck itself, i will say that as I've aged having the idea of a communal set of beliefs that exists beyond the sociopolitical (i.e. any of the -isms there) ... a moral sense of joy and peace and a way to deal with the tragic mechanics of this world ... I dunno.

It just goes to show how fucked up people are that these organizations that proclaim peace and love contribute so much to segregation and violence. Because it truly is an important and wonderful idea, the idea of love as a way of social inspiration.

It's not entirely clear why non-religious people are more intelligent - but the difference varies with age. At University the divide is the strongest.

Whereas later in life, more intelligent people are more likely to get and stay married which makes them less reliant on the attachment that the function of religion provides.

    Hey QBN,

I just wanted to say that I'm a KJV Bible believer. I'm pretty sure a lot of members here aren't fully aware of what's actually in the Bible and the ultimate fallacy of religion.

Sadly a large part of modern society through media, ignorance, and whatever other influences, has a pretty messed up view of God, Jesus Christ and what it all means.

I'm not saying I understand everything and am infallible. I'm just saying, religion today has no resemblance to Christ, God or the gospel.

If you want to chat about it or discuss anything, ask. I'll try and answer your questions to the best of my knowledge and always in truth.

    Thanks

    Robb.

    • Religions are a hierarchical system, knowledge at the top, teaching at the bottom. If you want to speak to God/Jesus you speak to a man, who relays the message.robthelad
    • Bible teaching is a personal relationship with Christ, one to one, so no man can come between or pervert the teaching of Christ.robthelad
    • The worldwide flood happened, yes.robthelad
    • The Bible has the "godhead" - God, Jesus, Holy Spirit. The trinity comes from Catholocism which is adapted from paganism.robthelad
