I'm submitting my portfolio for a job at Environment Canada in Hull/Gatineau. The job title is Junior Information Officer, and it consists of web designing, making flyers, and researching.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips as to what I should include in my portfolio, and if anyone had any examples of some great ones.
( I already know of Brooke's resume :) )

make sure you put on there:
Understands how to use clipart from Microsoft Word

I would put specific pieces on there, relating to what they are asking... ie websites, and flyers... think government of canada, think corporate, think clipart... maybe even make some pieces that would "wow" them...

You can find some sample resumes here little one:

Thanks. I'll check that out soon. My internet is crappy right now, so basically only Google and NT work for some reason.

I agree with derek, but if you have a few other promotional pieces, throw them in there, too. That may put a thought in the back of their head that other pieces are always a possibility and that you're the person for them.
Also, I've found that noting any sort of general office experience you may have helps. It lets them know you can handle working in an office environment (because some people can't) and that they don't have to hold your hand as much as they would someone else. Even if it's just helping out at the school office for a semester. It's still experience.

Hey, can someone get a screenshot of Brooke's resume for me?

It's just to get an idea of something. My browser doesn't seem to want to show me the image.

Got a call today from another agency here in midtown today that wants to try me out from a Newstoday posting....Don't know if I should risk it....sorry, didn't mean to change topics here

They just want you for an interview first right? So you wouldn't be risking anything much. Unless you already got the job.

(Jul 7 05, 09:54)It's obviously not a technical job you're applying for, eh :P

They want to try me out for a few days, but I already have a job...

No, for some reason links periodically don't work on my computer. I'm not sure what the problem is. Probably something with my internet connection. Right now I can't open most of the links at Google or anywhere, including that one of Brooke's resume. It's weird that certain sites work (like NT, Google), but other links and MSN don't work.

You should make a list or something, ArtDirector. The pros and cons of each job.

The other place seems more fun and interactive while my current place is boring lame National Geographics, BBC crap. Basically I want to try for the new job, but don't want to risk not getting it and being out a job. They asked me to call back later today...

jaline.
this is a government job. dont try to dazzle them too much with design and concept. those words dont exist in the government. trust me I KNOW. think like an accountant. if its nto in a simple black and white line and doesn't photocopie well they get confused.
well okay. in all honesty. since the job you are applying for is actually web design, go ahead and make something real nice but simple. But most importantly, make sure it looks good when you photocopie it. They love killing trees in the government. they keep copies of your résumé somewhere in some archive.
