I'm a freelancer based in the UK, 90% of my work has come from a marketing company based about 3 1/2 hours away from me, done various web based work in the past for them, however, recently the sites for their clients have been more dynamic, therefore more stuctered, I plan, as with any project, down to the last little detail.
However, the latest project, I have competition from their local design company, I don't mind the competition, I am quite confident of the work I do, one thing I am worried about is losing the client based on geographic location.
I feel I may have put the nail in the coffin, I pitched the idea of selling dynamic webstes but I didn't forsee them getting other quotes from companys that reside close by, I do have the upperhand, done loads of work, always on time and they have always been happy.
Can anyone make any recommendations with regards to working remotly with clients. Meeting with them once or even twice is not a problem but I do think I would stand a better chance if I could introduce some communicational devices to enhance, well, customer service really.
I'm thinking maybe webcasts, conference calls etc.
Any ideas really.

FlashComm hosting, lets you build your own webcam chat in 20 minutes by more or less just dragging and dropping components..
http://www.macromedia.com/devnet…
skin it to taste and there you go...
don't know if that helps you any but I hope so, good luck with the pitch!

Yeah it does, I did look look into intergrating the FlashComm components when they first came about, maybe it worth another look.
Anymore ideas?

offer to see them for initial cloet meetings/milesstones in the project, might be enough for them?

Yeah, I personally don't mind travelling to see them from time to time, gets me out of the office/house.
For the last couple of years I have been sitting in the comfort zone, I'm gonna fight to keep my clients, I should probably get the fear and start trying to get new work in.
Sad week :(

I would suggest setting up, if you haven't already, some kind of client section of your site where they can log in and upload materials, check progress, etc. That way, they'll feel connected all the time.
Being close by doesn't make much of an actual difference. You have to fight the perception of convenience of course, but don't forget that when it comes to web, there really isn't too much of a benefit of geographical proximity, and try and relay that to them.

I really suggest meeting them face to face to tighten up the relationship again. it did help me a lot with my remote clients.
goodluck.

tell them your actually willing to help them win even more new work if they put it your way after theyve won it.
i.e if they want; turn up to their important initial client pitches/presentations and act as a consultant on their team that has been brought in to show commitment and understanding to that specific client?
