is there a panel or tool like the pathfinder tool found in illustrator for photoshop? like if i want to delete a shape mask using another shape mask.

ctrl + click on the shape mask.
click on the shape mask you want to delete from and prese delete.
not sure if thats what your after.

not really...
but you can export the paths to illustrator and do it.
and then paste them back in.

agentfour is on the money. just use your quick keys to add, subtract or multiply several shapes to get the final selection you're after.

when you're drawing with the vector/path tools, you'll see icons on the top bar (tool options) for add/subtract/intersect/exclude from shape area. you can do it before drawing or select your path after drawing and choose the option.
it's a little cumbersome, but it works.
