who makes 'em ... is it Sony ?
prolly not, but i know there are only like 3 major manufacturers and that Apple doesn't really build their own

dunno...but what i do know is that they're made by the same people who make HP's.

Apple used lcd panels of multiple companies over the years.
Samsung, Hitachi and currently LG/Philips i think

they basically make it from the same place as dell, but only charge you more, that's apple

i was about to buy an apple display, and then saw a sony next to it in store, and really like the sony more -- it had that Xbrite feature, which may be a bit of the difference
but now i am rethinking my idea of what might be best to work on

phillips makes it.
it is the same display that dell uses.

question:
i have an ibook. normaly when you plug an external monitor in you can only run 1024x768 and its a mirrored monitor.
so i installed a hack and the monitor that i currently have goes up to 1280x1024.
my question. if i get an apple 20 or23 inch monitor will the ibook let me run the max resolution? will it recognize what monitor it is and let me run the 1600 by whatever? it would suck if i dropped the 800 and i can't run it at it's highest resolution.
any ideas?

it's a video card issue, those in the ibook don't support 1600x1200 but there is a solution, you can have an extra monitor at that resolution via usb or firewire

hmm. i installed a patch that lets the vid card run an external monitor at a different resolution (much like the powerbook) so i have the laptop and ext. as two seperate screens. just curious as to what the max is.
thanks for the info though!
