Anyone ever installed/used this? I don't even think the zip I downloaded has all the files I need.
- Engage_London0
that sounds like the noise that boy made on 'it'll be alright on the night' when he is trying to get an eel in a jar
- fate_redux0
lol. James, have you ever used it for Flash Remoting? or do you just use flash remoting...or was? WAS IST DAS?
- Engage_London0
never done any remoting stuff... although I plan to in the futoor
- fate_redux0
This thing is a pain in the ass.

i havent used it but am on the mailing list and been keeping my eye on it. There isnt a non beta release yet and many people are still having quite a few problems. Looks promising if they can sort it out
- DigitalMan0
I have been using it. I am using the 1.0Beta
available here:
http://www.5etdemi.com/uploads/a…Setting the service up was a little flaky, only becasue there is a typo in the documentation.
But after this and once the PHP class file was written, getting usable data into Flash is so much easier.
No more MySQL->PHP->XML->Flash->ParseXML... data jiggery-pokery for me!!
Now just MySQL->PHP->Flash->Display Data
I recomend it.

sounds good DG. Are all mysql data types supported in the 1.0 Beta. I thought they were still hvaing problems??
- DigitalMan0
Hi,
No, not all MySQL data types are not supported as to my experience.
Everything that comes back from MySQL is a string unless you cast it.
PHP does this automatically when you need to perform functions on a
variable (such as math functions, etc). But not when you pass MySQL directly. To work around this I have been passing the Data to Flash, then where I know the value is to be used as a Number I wrap it with Number(): i.e.
var xPos:Number = Number(amfPhpData_x);

thanks for that DM, have you used this on any commercial apps yet?
- mirola0
i built the back-end for this in amfphp
http://www.minipals.com/minipals…
i love it, you cen send the result set from a query straight into flash. i could never go back to doing the sendAndLoad shit again.
i had to re-code a bit of the php cos it stopped working when sending multiple results back but it works fine now.

no major problems Mirola? Did you install it on a shared or dedicated server and how was that??
thanks
- mirola0
i've done it on a few different dedicated servers, never on a shared one though. i don't imagine there would be much problems with shared. you just upload the files and change a the URL in your flash file.
it's a really nice and clean way to work on both the php and flash AS side as they are completely separated and they have a nice OO structure.
- UndoUndo0
excellent, thanks for sharing Mirola! :)
- jarredbishop0
i got it installed and working sweet. and i think i'm on a shared server..

Thanks for the advice. I spent a good 2 hours last night trying to get the Pizza example from the AMFPHP website to work. Of course, it never did.
Oh well, I'm going to invest some time into the Actionscript.org tutorial.
- UndoUndo0
fate, it would be good to know how you get along and any tips or tricks you pick up along the way! :)
are you installing AMFPHP on shared server??
- fate_redux0
Yeah, I'm installing on MT's SS server. I'll probably write up some good pointers for getting started with AMFPHP and FlashRemoting.
I had a lot of misunderstandings starting everything yesterday. Like I thought you had to have the actual Flash remoting files on your server. And the docs that come with AMFPHP aren't that great. But I had a friend walk me through quite a bit of the setup and get-going.
