if it's a music CD you want to 'backup' you have iTunes.
if you want to copy a data cd you have caopy all the files to a folder on your mac. pop in a blank disc and follow your nose. basically the disc will appear on the desktop called 'my disc' (or something like that). just change the name and copy all the files from you folder to the disc image. when you're done click 'burn sdisc' in the file menu.
for mac the best cd/dvd app is Roxio Toast:

I tried that disc image method, only problem seems to be that songs on cds are turned to .aiff.
How do I make exact copy of a music cd.
Is that toast worth the money?

Hmm..I usually lift up the lid of the photocopier, place the disc doen, lower the lid. I then press the big green "copy" button one or two times - not more or else those RIAA fellas will come after me...
I found i had to lower the brightness a bit, or else it doesn't look right. For fun I reduce the CD too - it's so cool! Like a tiny little CD!!
After I copy it I usually tape it to the wall of my cubicle...

Yeah it was the brightness,
How can it be so difficult.
I give up.
