Hello everyone.
I am putting together my portfolio to send out(currently p/t student but not for much longer). I was just wondering what sorta stuff should I include on the front/covering letter. I mean should I just be strait to the point or be a little bit quirky with it? I plan on sending to a few agencies and magazines whos work I really like in the hope that if or when something becomes available they will give me a call/arrange an interview. I currently work full time in production for a mag publisher but its not a design role, I wanna move into graphic design full time. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks.

most colleges/universities spit out entry-level good quality students. The work is pretty standard for students, but what gets potential employers interested is what sets you apart from the crowd. As an individual I'd go for putting your personality on paper. Your porfolio shows your work, the letter should show what you're made of.

a friend of mine sent a box of diaries from when he was about 12 instead of his portfolio.
that showed them what he was made of...
he got the job, and all the girls in the office knew about his first wank!

You might want also to think about presenting your work differently. Art/Creative Directors/Senior designers get bored quickly when having to flick through 100 odd plastic sleeves each day. I know I do. Have a think and don't be scared to show us your sketchbooks.
