Im sure some ppl here are avid book collectors as well. Well today some idiot construction guy doing work in my house cut a pipe by accident, water went down thru the floor came thru my floor tiles and all over my design books.
I keep my books in such good condition and look what happens, warped pages and all. Water went inside my tv, and my crt monitor and all into the wood of my bookshelf also.
They are all still readbale and not in horrible conidition but i can just cant live with them if they arent perfect, i dont know why.
Anyways quite a few books from my list below will be for sale and ill post photos once they are dry and all, if anyone wants some discounted prices and stuff, it will help me rebuild.

OH NO! I'm so sorry NegativeSpace! :(
I'm a bookworm, too, so i can totally feel your pain. I'll take a look at the list. What is the construction company going to do about all the damage that was done?
- gruntt0
that SUCKS!
i too am a lover of my design book collection. i don't keep them in the immaculate shape that you do, it sounds like, but I can feel your pain.
Is it a sunny day? Go lay them out in the sun. The sun sometimes heals.
good luck

I feel for you.
Itemize your losses right away. Are the items you lost replaceable?

(Jun 16 05, 11:39)agree...that sucks. don't u have like homeowners insurance to cover it? u might not be able to replace it but at least get compensated.
- magicpatch0
Shafted, good luck though!

Itemize your loses.
Dumb construction guy should have liability insurance. He should be liable for the damage.
If he has no insurance - Consult Lawyer - Sue

Well my dad got my brothers friend to do the work for us.
This is why i hate working for friends and shit, my parents are paying him but how do you bring up a lawsuit or whatever for this guy.
Uncomfortable position.
I have them all layed out inside with a fan on them and large photo albums etc weighing them down flat.
- brandelec0
sorry to hear that
that's a nice collection you got there
- TheTick0
Firend of a friend - whatever. He's a professional. It comes with the territory. If he fucked up, he should cover it.
- jimeeboy510
aww...totally akward. ask for a huge discount AFTER he's done with the work to compensate for the lost.
- TheTick0
Discount could be a good idea as well if you want to be pleasant about it.
Personally I'd be super pissed..

homeowners insurance
- jimeeboy510
I dont think u can sue somebody like a family member's friend. Its just too akward and too american to get sue happy like that. But if they're responsible, they should realize the damage done and attempt to compensate for it. If not, then yeah, fuck them and sue them up the ass or withhold your due payment.

Yeah I am gonna see what I can do.
This week was going so well, I got some good freelance jobs and stuff, and then construction started, Hot water tank coincidentally broke and soaked a huge area of my carpet, drywall dust everywhere, now this. Were gonna have to replace a huge area of my celing now too.
Sorry for ranting, and thanks everyone !
- todelete__20
homeowners insurance may take care of it.
ask your agent.
sorry btw.
- NegativeSpace0
I will look into that, wish i knew more about these types of things.

If that would have happen to me I would be in jail by now. I would have given this guy the beat of his life. I have books that cost as little as $9 to $100
