does it usually take you to preprare a set of web design comps to show the client? is 4-5 days a reasonable amount of time or am i a slacker?

for 1 site? 3-5 comps?
may be 2 days?

damn you bastards are fast

depends how many they want. Once I've discussed it with the client and got an idea of what they're after for the site, it normally takes a couple of days to present something but it could be done faster if I didn't skive off

ehh sounds about right. don't do it no more

depends on the breadth of the site i'd say. but in 4-5 days you should be doing at least 2 or 3 sets of comps if its not that complicated.
just remember to make big moves, and quickly, and don't get lost in the details too soon, you'll just end up wasting time.
love,

good point there nick and i do get lost in details quite often. but isnt it the details that make the site what it is?
the comps end up being slaughtered by the client anyway but i still i feel i need to get the design to a level that i am happy with and that takes too long apparently.
i need to figure out how not to dive into details and yet be satisfied with the work.

usually the objective of doing comps is to test the water with different directions... so when in the beginning, make the big moves, and then once you have your directions nailed, you can work the details a little.
but theres no use in losing yourself in the details on initial comps, because the client won't see that, they will only see the big picture.

thanks for the advice. i will give it a shot.
