Do you use or have used NTML Tidy?
Any comments on the matter?

- van_rijn0
never used it. BBEdit for me.
- stefanburt0
haven't used it also but have a plug-in for firefox that displays page errors as well as xhtml warning which are genorated by a tidy extension plug-in.
The plug-in for firefox is the developers tools which i must say I only found about a week ago and is one of the main reasons for moving over to firefox over safari.
- van_rijn0
can also use the W3C validator
- Dancer0
Tidy, I think, converte your html into xhtml. It's not a validator just an app that puts closing p tags and other stuff.
Just thought I would see if you people use it.

Can't say I do.
Even using a current version of DW you can't go too far wrong with coding good XHTML...

dreamweaver is a little debatable ;o)
- Dancer0
Hey Moth,
Tried that PHP and .....well.... I thought it was a simple case of putting it in the code and hey presto, bit like CSS.But no no no, servers, apache, loccal hosts tthe whole she-bang.
I'm starting to learn allll about it now.

I find dreamweaver a lot quicker than handcoding everything. It's always been quite reliable for starting you off on a basic page.
I don't use tables so I handcode all the div content etc... it's "prediction" is a life saver as a code editor, as it is document management. Why does it have a bad name?
- determinedmoth0
Hmm. Is you server even php enabled? It *should* just work unless you're running php5 maybe....
- Dancer0
I haven' even set up a server propery yet. Still understanding the concept behind it.
- determinedmoth0
Crikey...
Do you need some help?
- Dancer0
I really need to sit down with someone and go through this Moth. I think I live a little far away from you though and I'm sure you don't really want to do this.
I have been hasseling my IT man here to help me out and he can to an extent but he is kept super busy all the time.
Remember I am a print designer thrown into the web pool with out any armbands. I have got a good foothold of CSS and XHTML (ish) php is the next step.
N.B print still rules!!

Is the server up and running minus php?
- Dancer0
I think Mac OSX has it built in, doesn't it?
- van_rijn0
this is for the mac

moth, the way you use dw sounds good but i hate it when people just let it create crappy code for them.

(Jun 9 05, 06:12)I guess you do need to know what's not good about it. But honestly - DW doesn't write invalid mark-up. Not that often. Sure it leaves stuff out - like alt tags and all... but what it does it does well. Again it's only a tool though..

Mac OSX Server? Have you enabled php in the modules bit?
Also - if you're running 10.4 you have make some config changes to make php/sql work together.
- Dancer0
Nope don't think I have enabled the modules bit yet.
I am running OSX.3.9 currently will upgrade in the next few months

dw was a bit to slow for me...
the prediction was nice, but i relied on it so much that if i needed to help anyone or show them anything i could not without dw...
i am to the point now with bbedit where i already know all the tags, attributes, etc...
i use CSSEdit for css editing for it's prediction, because sometimes i don't remeber how the font thingy goes and stuff like that, but it doesn't do anything for you...
you should check it out, http://www.macrabbit.com
