If I were you, I'd send a PDF file (don't send the InDesign file unless you expect the printer to make pre-press changes for you). And print a hardcopy of the entire thing, since you said that your printer prints out the colors pretty accurately. Send the hardcopy along with the PDF file.

Hmm... actually, maybe you should send the InD file as well, just in case. With the printer being so far away, who knows what they'll need.

are you designing the catalogue 4 color process throughout?
if so... and maybe this is obvious but, make sure you're using the Process Guidebook, and not Solids.
or you will end up with very unexpected results.

ftp a zipped or stuffed folder containing a lo-res PDF proof, and the folder with your complete packaged InDesign files.

just make sure the pantone colors you have chosen are reproduceable in 4 color process. There will be a four dot symbol in the guide. Also covert all pantone to cmyk before sending unless youre paying extra for spot colors.

thanks for the tips. I am using cmyk colors. I think I will include a hi res PDF and a low res one for placement proof and the indesign package files too. just to be safe.
thanks so much.
Here's an attachement of the layout let me know what you guys think?

Just now opened it, babe. First thing that screamed out at me:
You really should show your trim AND crop marks. Please, please, please.
I'll keep looking.

On page 7 of the document, i'd like to see the red force justified copy to be cleaned up a bit. But over-all, i like the feel. Looks like you picked up InDesign rather well. :)

I thought I did, how do I set the trim marks on InDesign?

thanks mayo, I'd rather use indesign than Quark. I used Quark before and found it very difficult.
I am having trouble with that page because the red paragraph is the same paragraph as the black text so I can't force the black text lower. I will play with it a bit.
thanks

you can't do any soft returns (shift+return)?
in the print dialog box, make sure "all printer's marks" in clicked and then you should be fine.

ok will try that, thanks so much mayo, you're so nice.
