I've noticed more and more blog style portfolios such as these:
and

.
just wondering what you guys think about it and whether i should change my flash site ( http://www.breadlegs.com/ ) into this style maybe?

i think its an intresting idea.
if you work mainly in print i think it works well, but if your job is to design websites, then i think you should try to be a bit more creative with the site itself.

whats wrong with what you have?

I think it works well, I do it myself.

not my cup of tea. a blog is a blog and a portfolio is a portfolio. those two shouldn't be combined imo. i personally don't check out portfolio blogs. a blog gives the illusion it's updated daily and a portfolio is never updated daily.

my website uses a blog tool.. but more costumizable. than the usual ones like wordpress or movabletype
http://cutephp.com try it, once you get in to it and install, its easy as cutting nails

i dont see why a portfolio couldnt be in a blog style.
particularly easy to do if you were a print designer and didnt have much html or flash knowledge.
a workmate could put together a wee blog for you to update whenever you wanted.i take quite a lot of photos and wanted an area of my site that would be stupidly easy to update - especially for photos from nights out which i could update like the next day (impatient friends!) without numbing my brain with flash or html.
so i found a PHP script that creates directories and a click through slideshow bla bla.
so all i gotta do is drop all my new photos into a folder then upload it to my server. no programming :)bliss

thank you design maker

aye, kodap the whole lot from design and illustrations are fantastic. I'll have a look at that php script later as I'm adding my portfolio at some point.
(even tho it could be a meme)

konspiracy, sure it's easier for the designer but that's not an argument imo. for me as a visitor i fail to see its purpose. see if a designer shows me his portfolio in real life he doesn't show me the work with lot's of text and dates and comments etc. why? because it's not important. i want to see the work. then again it's a matter of personal taste.
- konspiracy0
fair enough about the dates etc - i can see where you are coming from.
all that matters is that the information and navigation is easily laid out and clear.
useability plays a HUGE factor of whether i'll go through someones cd website or cd rom. if its pissy navigation you gotta "discover" or fuck about with, the novely easily wears off about 10 seconds into the site (thats IF you ever work out how to use it).
a blam! blam! blam! click-through would do me anyday

I've designed bunch of layouts for my future site, but every time the programmer gets the design I'm bored with the looks. It's been like that since I decided to do a portfolio web. Now I've been blogging for couple of month and I really like the blog shit so why not have a blog.portfolio? I know nothing about web programming but somehow I managed to tweak the standard blog I used and the shit I didn't know how to do my friend helped, easy as fuck. I also disabled to comments because I didn't want to get negative comments about my work on the site, and it would just make the page ugly I think. heheeheh. I try to keep my work updated and I've got some really nice comments from the people here, So peace out and stay fresh..

I first rmemeber seeing the blog style portfolio at phunkstudio and I actually quite liked it. I don't think it's a bad thing, after all it's the work thats on display that does the talking.
The pro's are: quick to navigate and load, easy to use, clean, easy to update.
The con's: generic.

also, if the ability to update easily w/out having to rewrite HTML or Flash, learning about PHP and MySQL are an alternative to creating a standard blog site.
My current idea of the perfect portfolio site would be something like neuarmy.com but built on PHP/MySQL so new work can be added quick and easy.
