i just want to know what people think of them, under all circumstances, both for personal use and corporate

eh, im not too fond of em cause it just seems like some extra un-needed stuff . if theyre real good then i geuss its alright

never use, people will just click away.

They annoy me. intensely. ESPECIALLY on corporate sites.

I hate them. Yet I am forced to make them all the time at work.

I generally click the skip intro everytime. similar to what one of the other dudes says (I think), if it catches my eye, I might watch it. but think about the returning user - they're not going to want to see it eveytime they come back. If you have o have it, you have to have it - always have ski intro though (obvious I know).

i fail to see the functionality of flash intros or i have never seen one of which i think it really works conceptwise. i've never seen intros in other forms of media as well, except movie trailers which aren't really intros so one wonders why there has to be intros on the web.

IMO...is the intro a necessary element to communicate the "message"...99% NO it's not...
Intros SUCK and are a waste of time...

i think it depends on the scenario really...
an intro for the sake of having an intro is pretty retarded in my opinion. but i've seen a few where it makes sense to have one...
ie an explanation/walkthrough of an interaface that might be confusing for first time users.
or, if it's an "experience" type of site and there's a backstory that needs to be explained for users to fully understand at what point they are coming into the story at...

yes a walkthru could be handy, i've seen praystation / kioken sites do that but that was always in the preloading bit which imo is a better spot for such info.

ok so i am not alone
ive really got a problem with them and am asked to do them all the time. I hate it, i try to talk my boss out of it but nope
Im not too sure hwat to do

well obviously you have two options. the first one would be about don't giving a damn since it pays your bills and the other one would be to quit your job. then again, at your next agency you prolly have to do them as well, so why not grit and bear it and try to make the best of it.

dann, the best intros are simply the building of the interface or logo or some such thing. I hate traditional intros, but this is actually a good example of one I like:

Important thing is, just keep it short and relevant.

they're shite. If its as a showcase of somebodies flash skills, then make the whole site slick. If its a company they are disasterous.
imagine stopping people at the door of a shop and making them watch an ad.
i hate you, flash intro, i wish you were dead.

actually there are 3 options. the third would be to start your own agency and punch clients if they ask you for a flash intro. chances are that in such a case you prolly would do them anyways if the money is right and you'd be like, fuck it, they want it, they get it, i get the cash. that's prolly what your current boss's thinking as well.
