i know ipod questions are getting lame now, but this is really irritating me.
my laptop wont recognize my ipod anymore when i connect via usb. it would worked fine before, but now, no more. so now i cant upload any new music, i can only charge.
i did some research, and it says i should tinker with the device manager? but what exactly do i need to do?
any ideas?

desmo.
Mac or PC? ipod photo, shuffle, or standard? Have you tried using your firewire cable?

device manager? that'd only help if your usb device isn't working, rather than a communication error with the ipod.
first, check that usb socket. plug some other usb device in the SAME socket and see if it works.
also, if you have more than one USB socket, plug the ipod into that. hopefully it'll recognise it for the first time and install the correct devices.
if not of that works, uninstall all your ipod software. everything. including itunes. restart your machine, and then go through the install processes again. making sure you rstart your machine after every step.
good luck.

i had this exact same problem using firewire, i couldn't fix it so i switched to usb and it works fine.
that's probably no help at all for you.

i had the same problem. i'm gonna take mirola's advice and get a usb cable. but i went to macmall to buy it and it says in paremthesis for macintosh. are usb really different for macs from pcs? or is macmall just stupid?

probably you did, but try www.ipodlounge.com, that's as good as it gets for info about your ipod.

I have the same prob the pod won't work at work anymore but works at home on my g5. I don't know.
As far as getting music off the laptop, a temp solution is to burn a cd of your mp3's and then try to upload them from another computer to your ipod.
