what do you mean by overrated pascii?
- jamble0
don't care if he's overrated, I wish people would stop using fucking stupid browser resize scripts when there's no need!

his mouth is bigger than his work. i never saw such a bunch of waste like the swiss ci

I liked what he did with Wallpaper magazine a few years back. I stopped buying it after he left.
As for wink, it's pretty much turning something successful and applying it elsewhere. Is he a designer or a manager of creativity?
- clerk0
ok, i was just curious. i don't know much about him, but i think he did a good job with wallpaper, that magazine has been nothing but crap the last 3 years imho, since he sold it.
the swiss ci is nothing groundbreaking but it looks really tight to me.

All of the work I've seen of winkreative has the same aesthetic, regardless of who the client is.
The work should be as diverse as the clients.
They just impose their aesthetic on whatever it is they are working on. It's self promotion. But if it's 'cool' companies will jump on the bandwagon.
I just threw a load of old wallpaper* in the skip last weekend - it was the best use I could think of!

(May 26 05, 02:05)I think this is quite a sweeping statement. I don't disagree with it but I think with the success of Wallpaper* and Winkreative's client list he must be doing something right.
If he is a little dogmatic then I think he has reason to be. The forecast work is really nice IMO
- randoman0
is it the style you find overrated or his forcasting ability?

(May 26 05, 03:37)How much is 'the forecast'?
I think this forecasting ability is a bit crystal ball - yeah you can look at global /local trends, gather 'data', research - put it in a big trendy book and sell it for a fortune.
Hmmm, I'm a bit sceptical, how accurate is it?. How defined are the 'pedictions'? - or are they as vague as going to see a medium at the fair?
People will buy it anyway, because of his profile.
- stem0
I won't be buying it though becuause:
1 - I'm not cool
2 - I can think for myself
3 - I can't afford it
- randoman0
heh ok then
I mean the early Wallpapers were pretty good at predicting trends... now that Time/Warner has it I'm sure they will dictate them
But then you never know, the influence of Wallpaper may have worked as a superficial dictation device over time.
And then the ability to forcast based on trends and culture is needed to create branding and advertising.
I like his astetic for what it is, it's pretty classy. and it's not so complicated but in this case thats an asset.
A couple of logo's (Tai Ping and The Desk) I think were pretty bad but otherwise they work for their respective clients.
I would not say he's the best or the most progressive for that matter. But he's got talent and has some very nice work.
Honestly I never heard the guys name until it was mentioned in this thread (although I've read Wallpaper* before).
If by overrated you mean he's getting too much spotlight when there are so many other unheard of designers doing equal or better work... maybe I can see that.
