wow, this is the most exciting week in Canadian politics since the FLQ.

Harper just lost his little vote, which I think is excellent. Now if they could just get down to work then things would be great.

  • Jaline0

It was HEATED. I was searching for Belinda....she was in the corner right?

  • t_rock0

yeah and Mackay was sitting in his seat with his head down gorging himself in a tub of ice cream and whimpering about being dumped

  • exador10

anyone seen Global news's coverage of this stuff?..it's like the nightly news was taken over by a couple of 13 year old girls talking about a friends crush gone wrong..
'Mackay is like, really sad...his heart is totally broken...i think he still really cares about her though, i wouldn't tho, i think she's mean'

    that sorta thing.

Global news used to be pretty good when i was a kid..
now it's a total joke..it's infotainment at best..

    anyone else notice this?

  • scransom0

I don't think this is good. The liberals selling out to the NDP? That's crazy. They've been in power for 10 years.. it's time for a change. They've gotten complacent & allowed corruption. Let them be a minority for a few years.

I didn't even know who Mckay was before this! Hes on the Sun with a dog like one of those British Prince boys or something.. so weird..

  • scransom0

good balance on "The "hour" by strombolopolis & Co. some humour to cut the tension! Good to hear from Strombach (or whatever her name is) as well. Fill me in though.. would voting with the block to topple the liberals mean the block could have the power to seperate canada ? I doubt it, but that seems to be inferred.

  • magicpatch0

Could be bye-bye B.C. and Quebec. USA buys up all the rest.

  • Jaline0

Yup, Global has definitely been more juvenile lately.

    George Stroumboulopoulos is HOTTTT

  • Jaline0

The conservative party is a lot like Canada...always focusing on what they DON'T represent and who they are NOT like instead of letting everyone know what issues and who they are FOR.

  • Fanco0

the hour is the best. i love the whole math equuation they did when belinda changed party.

in all honesty. i was watching it live and totally hooked by it. (it helps that i'm into politics) and damn i was happy when i saw that BC independant stand up.

the conservatives are too right wing for canada.

if the vote of non-confidence would of worked: Québec would've seperated. Same with BC. The Maritimes would be happy to finally be left alone with thier oil. The Prairies can seperate and join the States. Ontario can do whatever it wants. I'm moving to montréal in septembre.

  • Fanco0

    oh yes and Global sucks.

its the CNN/FoxNews of Canada. No substance.

  • Jaline0

    You're moving? Awww....

well...say hello to those awesome bands in Montreal!!

  • Fanco0

  • Jaline0

Haha...yeah you should tell all the guys about me. And get some pictures of good bands. And it's cool that you'll be studying in Montreal. Great schools there!

whoa, whoa, whoa. This vote had nothing to do with Quebec or BC separating.

First of all, BC isn't going anywhere, they'd be more fucked than Quebec if they lost the Fed Cash. Second, the whole notion that the current Liberals have completely lost any sway in Quebec is total Conservative rhetoric.

Sure, there's a small problem with the confidence of Franco's in the current government, but that's totally normal. They're just testing the water of a new goverment. Hell, if you cook poutine the wrong way they start to talk about separation.

Gilles Duceppe is by far one of the most convincing separatist leaders in a long time, but he's not stupid. He knows damn well how much federal cash flows into his "nation" so he's not about to fuck it up by calling for another referendum or some such other pointless BS. He's smart enought to know that the fact that he holds 54 seats gives him a lot of power in federal decisions and he can dangle the separatist carrot over the leading party, but he'll never use it because it would screw him.

As for the conservatives - they're fucked. In my mind it breaks down like this:

~ they had their chance to form government now

~ at best that would have been a minority, a la Joe "Captain Enthusiasm" Clarke

~ they were too late, this confidence vote should have happened weeks ago

~ now they're screwed because there's no election until next year, which gives the liberals the time they need to mend things with the general public (which already prefers them anyway, despite any bullshit "Adscam".)

~ the general population does NOT agree with the conservative platform

~ so, they'll lose the next election

~ which means that Harper is out, 2 time loser == fuck off && new leader

~ Mackay is the only one left that has any potential at all, but there's no way he could defeat someone like Paul Martin, or Bill Graham

~ so he loses *that* election

~ Belinda would have been a contender but she's defected so after Mackay the conservatives are left with no players

~ but the liberals still have their Ace In The Hole: Pierre Pettigrew

~ Pierre Pettigrew runs a modern version of Trudeau's orginal campaign, gets elected and reigns for another 12 years

~ Voila! 20 more years of Liberal rule.

In short, Harper is a moron, he should have taken down the governement weeks ago, by waiting he allowed Belinda to cross the isle and now he's fucked his party for another 2 decades.

Mark my words, he'll go down in history as the worst Canadian politician ever.

Hell, even Joe Clarke actually formed government at one point in time.

    As for previous comments:

    1. Yes, I was watching live and was on the edge of my seat. I actually stood up and clapped with Cadman stood up.

    2. Exactly: the conservatives just don't get it. If you want to form goverment and create legislation then you have to stand FOR something, not just against what is currently being proposed. Preston Manning knew that very well. He was by far one of the best leaders of the opp. ever. He didn't just oppose for the sake of it, he did his job as leader of the opp. by keeping the goverment in check, but he also lead his party with clear ideals of what SHOULD be as opposed to what should not be.

I never agreed with him, but I respected him a lot because he was a thinking politician.

  • Visia0

also, the comment about the Liberals making a deal with NDP.

Good stuff. The fiscal responsibility of Paul Martin mixed with the socialist ideals of the NDP all wrapped up in a federal budget, how could you ask for anything better?

In the end we've still got money left over. Thanks, in a very large part to Paul Martin's expertise in financial management over the pas 9 years.

I don't see why people are bitching, even with the Adscam cash gone we're still an FN rich nation.

The vote doesn't have any relation to immediate seperation, but reflects on the tendencies of what the party is accountable for. The long term goals. I'll be the first to admit that everything that we have going, and all the prospects are looking good, but - Your first statement about actually getting to work and generating some results of what said will be interesting. Canada is a great country, its good the way it is. The idea of seperation, from any province ads harm to the national economy, more divided politics, less getting done, and more money being spent.
