Can anyone tell me if its possible to print metallic pantones with some tranceparency or say 70% tint?....and if it is possible, what does it look like?
- rabattski0
no idea but an interesting concept.

of course u can is it on an uncoated or coated? best idea is to get a tint book - find a pantone color similar to the metalic and you can see what color it will be and you just have to Imagine the metallic effect.. thast what i used to do

its on coated.
I want it to be sitting over an image but the image will show through the metallic.
how does it look?? if it is like 60% can you still see that its metallic or does it kida lose the effect?
- tehgee0
it will kind of lose it but i bet it will look cool! best is to ask the printer if they have a sample like it already in lets say a paper promo book or somehting

Are you aware of Metal FX?
- rabattski0
actually now you mention the picture, i think i've seen it a couple of times, semi transparent metallic ink over an picture, looked really cool. so should be possible. why not ask your printer btw?

It will be darker than you think if you screen it. I did a 60% silver screen over an image + white space and it almost looked 100% silver because it's so reflective...stay light in the 30% range if you want it to look subtle.

ask your printer, since it's generally better to use the metallic underneath and then the image overprinted...
One of the nicest effects I've seen is using spot channels in your image, so the image is printed on metallic, then there's a spot varnish on the image in certain areas, it looks really swanky...

a tinted metallic overprint seems kinda silly man. they are the most opaque inks out there.

sorry i'm late in responding to this. I just finished a piece with a metallic/non-metallic duotone. The effect is great. Subtle, without losing too much of the metallic qualities. Used PMS 877 (silver). Have the printer double check on knocking out any copy that may go over it (i had photo captions). The silver seemed to absorb the black caption copy and the black faded in less than an hour after i signed off at the press check.
