NYC has bigger budgets, better equipment, more talent, and bigger clients compared to the agency I worked in Columbus.

Competition is rough, but there are many jobs to be had, and good ones at that.
Freelance can be sustaining if youve got the talent, and there are plenty of opportunities to network and meet potential clients.
If your looking for a position in a company, make sure your portfolio is killer and youve got the work to back it up.
Craigslist.org is a great place to start looking.
